All About MEme Monday: I must Have It Monday!

with MommyBrain and SupahMommy

THIS ONE is inspired by  a conversation Kmama and I were having !

I MUST have it Monday.

What was it?
A benetton shirt?
Converse sneakers?
Jelly shoes?

There was ONE item that you wanted when you were a youth.

What was it?

You know, the one your begged and pleaded for.
The one you sold your soul for?

Show us a pic if you can and tell us a story about how you got it.

You know how this works!

Oh baby banana. I wanted this shirt so bad I could TASTE it as I walked by it in the mall.  BUT MINE .. was blue. The color of faded .. well.. blue.

It hung on Kaufmann's Department store rack.
A place I didn't belong.
YESTERYEARS version of Macy's.
I freaking blew it kisses.

I caressed it's price tag of $39.99.

I bid it goodbye more times than I can count.
Walked out of that damn mall , pouting.. like MY DAUGHTER POUTS!
#cursedbymymother

Everysingleone of my friends had one.

OR SO IT SEEMED.

My mother was a single mother and we simple survived. We barely wanted for anything but my mother was simply not budging on spending $39.99 on a rugby shirt that I would easily have 6 years from then when my cool cousins passed me one down. So I became an entrepeneur. I might have run a kissing booth to the tune of total recess failure. <-- lie It's possible I may have had a paper route and delivered papers on my ultra cool fat seat pink huffy bike. <---- Lie. Cuz I wasn't that active and I didn't have that bike either. ( for another meme)

I had a big wheel.
I might have taken on the job of Hamster babysitter.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd lost the hamster.  <--- this has never been proven.  <-- I lie.  I harmed no hamsters nor lost any.. nor was even asked to babysit.

Did I call into B94 FM to try and win Erasure tickets... win them.. and the promptly sell them? <-- no.  I just went to the concert and was mother trucking scarred for LIFE.

Truth be told, I don't actually remember how in the hell I acquired the money to buy that shirt but I sooo remember buying it.  The feeling of elation.  Knowing the ride to the mall was special.  Punching my sister in the head when she made fun of my songs about my soon to be shirt.  <-- lie
I think that I QUITE POSSIBLY freaking skipped to the clothing rack. SKIP TO MAH LOU.

My little afro headed, overachieving permed 5th grade self, skipping in Kaufmann's.

I knew it's GPS location.

"turn right at the creepy manequin... recalculating.. recalculating. "

oh I remember buying that sucker.  Watching my mom pay the cash I had earned.  ( somehow?) Peeking at it in that " nice mall " non Kmart bag.

I was carrying a cool mall bag!  I HAD MADE IT.

I coulda worn the bag itself and felt cooler.

I wore that damn shirt as much as I could.  I think I made a pillow out of it after it had seen it's day.  <-- lie

I was 100 percent more cool when I looked in the mirror that day.  I just KNEW I WAS.  My life was changed and it's because of that damn shirt.  I'm certain I am where I am today because of it.

Or is it because my  mother taught me what's important in life?  That money was to be earned and that life was not about impulsive choices.

That a coca cola shirt was just the icing on the cake.  The cake that was pretty cool to begin with.

Too bad our 6th grade selves are too young to figure that out.  :)

Now how do I teach them that?

What "must have " did you remember?

I have three great giveaways on my Swag Bag site right now!  Please go follow that site and sign on to win them!   I'm trying to  keep the two seperate for your sake but I need to wean and draw you over there. :)

My must-have was Play Doh.
As a child my mother forbade it. She felt it was too messy and too much of a hassle to pick up.

To this day I have never used Play Doh. I'm so glad it's still a popular children's item. When Sophia is older, mommy's gettin' her some Doh.

I remember those shirts, and I am so surprised I didn't have to have one. I loved Coca-Cola. I had Coca~Cola watches and T-shirts.

I also wanted that Coke shirt! And I eventually got one from a friend of mine, when it was a faded red that was more pink than anything, and nobody was wearing them anymore, but I sure did wear it anyway...I also got a pair of beat up K Swiss, an old Swatch watch, and a faded Gap sweater, all after she was finished with them and they weren't all the rage anymore.
