One of the blogs I read in any faithful way a mother of 3 can.. is Glamorous Life of A HausFrau... I just really like it. She has a great following and her blog draws out some great comments from her followers..
So she was bloggin nostagically about her favorite meal growing up as a southern girl. Tacos. It was very sweet and at the end she asked what our favorite meal memory was.. or something like that. So I was a' thinkin... ALL DAY... about a meal memory that I could answer and or blog.
And heres' what I came up with.
Butter Crackers.
Say what??
Butter friggin Crackers.
No lie.
All these people were pot roastin it... I could smell the deliciousness of each comment. And there I sat. Butter crackers.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE HAVE A LARD ASS IN AISLE 3 .. everyone come see her EAT BUTTER CRACKERS.
And if for one second you are thinking that I am speaking of some brand of buttery cracker goodness... I tell you NO.
I mean.. saltine crackers..slathered with BUTTER.
DING A DONG.Excuse me for one sec. Someone's at my door.
okay.. I'm back.
Weight Watchers just sent a super weight watcher lifetime person to my door.
Seems butter crackers are 45 points PER serving. Super WW reminded me of this. oH KIND ONE.
For real. I commented about my second favorite meal memory.. broccoli casserole.. but my whale butt remembers having SALTINE CRACKERS SLABBED WITH butter.
AT my gram's kitchen table. The warmest, most cozy place of conversation in all the land. A silver butter knife, a white, krinkled package of saltines, a butter stick on a plate... and the best fam in all the land. Eatin butter crackers and just talkin. Nowhere to be. Nothing you felt you had to say or pretend to be. Just butter crackers at 940 Butler St.
lol
Just thought I'd share.
I'll continue the post in House Frau's honor. :)
What's your meal memory?

D,
You made me laugh because it was the same thing with my grandparents and the saltines and butter. Conversation was great and they were yummy though typing it out it seems gross. LOL Memories are great, aren't they??!!!!
That must be one of the things to eat in Pittsburgh lol. I pictured myself sitting at my Grandmother's table eating her homemade whole wheat bread with butter and honey. I miss those days, as you put it, nowhere to go. *sigh*
We ate butter crackers too! And potted meat and all manner of strange things I wouldn't eat today. But, I did love the butter crackers.
I haven't ever had butter crackers, but butter and sugar bread was one of my childhood favorites!!
Added to that list are: broccoli or spinach casserole, toast with worcestershire sauce, cream cheese and olive sandwiches, liverwurst and spicy mustard sandwiches, baked potatoes with steamed spinach and soft boiled egg, and steamed dandelion with hot bacon dressing. All of those are things I ate with my Gramma!
Evil Twin's Wife...I LOVED potted meat when I was little!!!
My Dad made the BEST homemade french fries. I still beg for them when I go home even now at 30 something. :P
ok, so I never comment, but I had to comment on this blog. It's so funny that you brought this up because while we were all at gram's the other day, that is what Emma and I had as a snack. At first, she didn't want to have anything to do with it, as she couldn't understand how good a plain old butter cracker could taste. I mean, it's not an oreo or a sweet sour patch kid candy. Oh, but how she was hungry and decided to take a taste...about 10 butter crackers later, I had to be the one to close up the bag! I was all nostalgic at that moment being able to share a favorite snack of my childhood with my niece. Then of course it got ruined 30 mintues later, when gram decided to pull out the Oreo's. Let's just say, I'm sure Emma will remember the oreo's and not the butter crackers. I think a tear is welling up in my eye. Oh well, maybe I'll get her with my wonderful memories of rye bread or chili. lol -- Aunt Nenny
